Vehicle dealers face two ongoing theft problems:

• Theft from the showroom forecourt

• Theft of demonstration vehicles whilst on test-drives.

Dealers would like to fit a tracking system into each of the demonstrator vehicles and to the front row of the forecourt, but due to the high turnover of stock just cannot afford the installation and removal of conventional trackers.

The mtrack needs little or no installation, has no wires or aerials and therefore can be moved from vehicle to vehicle in a matter of minutes. The unit is small; self powered and can be easily hidden. The mtrack is more secure than conventional trackers as it can work both indoors and out with no need to see the GPS satellites in the sky above.

For the hijacking problem, on test drives mtrack can be linked with a radio remote control device, similar to a transponder on a car. If the sales person is ejected from the vehicle the mtrack will be instantly activated, simply by the salesman and the remote unit being separated it’s master mtrack and the vehicle can then be tracked and recovered.

A typical main dealer may have 10 demonstrator vehicles at any one time. Each vehicle will have a sale value of say £10,000 plus. A fleet of 10 mtracks complete with remote devices and monitoring will cost in the region of £250 per month giving a total cost of around 2.5% of the value of the goods protected. Theft rates on these vehicles are much higher than the national average for all vehicles of 4-5%, so expected losses would be in excess of £500 per month. Mtrack therefore makes a saving of at least 50% compared with expected losses in this market.
